About Me
Hi, I’m Jodi Lee DeMontigny, a lifelong creator with a deep love for crafting, sewing, and beadwork. My journey with art started young—at just seven years old, my mom taught me how to sew, and from there, my creativity took off. I started by making clothes for my Barbie dolls, then moved on to altering my own outfits to make them more stylish. By 16, with my very first paycheck, I bought my own sewing machine, and I’ve been creating ever since!
I was born in North Dakota and come from a long line of talented and resilient people from the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Tribe. Though I grew up in California, my roots remain strong, and I make it a priority to return home every year to reconnect with my family, my aunties, and my cousins.
My latest artistic adventure—beadwork—became my passion during one of the most challenging times of my life. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, I turned to beading as a way to heal, distract myself, and find peace during treatment. Every piece I create today carries that journey of resilience, strength, and renewal. Now, cancer-free, I am more inspired than ever to share my love for creativity and encourage others to explore art, whether as self-expression, a healing tool, or just for fun.
I believe that art has the power to heal, bring people together, and keep traditions alive. I hope my work inspires you to embrace your own creativity and find joy in the handmade. Thank you for being here and supporting Native artistry!
